How the Program Works

Each apprentice must complete 39 hours of Pre-Apprenticeship Training and Related Subject Instruction (RSI): Barbering = 250 hours, Cosmetology =320 hours at our school and 3200 On the Job Training (OJT) in a licensed establishment with a licensed trainer. After completion of the above requirements, the apprentice is able to apply to take the State Board exam to receive a professional license in their field.

39 Hours Pre-Apprenticeship

Complete 39 Hours of Pre-Apprenticeship Training on the subjects of:

  • Infection Control: Principles and Practices
  • Board Rules and Regulations
  • Life Skills
  • Study Skills
  • Your Professional Image
  • Communicating for Success
  • On The Job
  • Implements, Tools and Equipment

Upon completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship Training, the apprentice’s application will be filed with the State Board for the Apprentice License for Barbering or Cosmetology.  The license will be sent to the establishment where the apprentice will be indentured. Once the establishment receives the license, the apprentice may begin the required 3200 hours of On-the-Job training.

The apprentice must go to RSI class on their scheduled day (Sunday or Monday) for additional training.

RSI Classes

RSI classes are theory training on the following chapters using the Milady textbook and workbooks. Apprentices are to complete the answers in the appropriate workbook prior to coming to class.  Each chapter will be reviewed and a written exam will be given; 75% is passing score.  

Each day, the apprentice will learn how to do hands-on practical for each procedure that they are required to perform when taking the State Board practical exam.  

RSI Barbering

250 hours Sundays 9am-12pm (Woodland)

RSI Cosmetology

320 hours Sundays 9am-12pm (Woodland)
